What you are saying is conjectural...the patent lies with the owner of the large Molecule...not with someone who might have pointed out its possible/potential uses. You are right on Novel and non-obvious. The ART cannot have been seen before. Because you teach me how to ride my bike...does not give you ownership of my bike...possession being 9/10ths of the Law to start.
