I played poker a couple of years ago with a small Minnesota farmer. He loved GPS farming. He had a contracted service that did his planting and another with big and fast equipment to harvest. He had planes to spray week control. He figured he broke even compared to buying equipment himself, but it freed him to do other farm chores that he hired help for. So, if he was not full of crap, it was good for him. I have traveled back and forth in southern Minnesota one year during the harvest. And it seemed a few big companies did all the corn harvesting. It took about 5 weeks to get the whole area done.
I lived in Iowa for 3 years in the 70's. I heard a lot of farm news because of the location. The spring was too wet to plant, then it got to dry, then August rains came. Farmers said it was too late because the crops had already germinated or such. In the end of the season, farmers had the 2nd largest crop in the states history, lol. So, since then I never believe farmers. They think they can talk the commodity prices up, like I think I can talk a stock price up, lol.
