I don’t want to get into a debate over the merits of vaccinations. I only mentioned it because the most vocal people on this board seem to be anti-vaccine and anti public health.
A new study found that less than 1% of fully vaccinated people have experienced a breakthrough COVID-19 infection.
Less than 0.004% of people who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and experienced a breakthrough case needed to be hospitalized, and less than 0.001% have died from the disease. To sum up, that’s roughly 6,600 severe breakthrough cases among the 163 million fully vaccinated people in the U.S.

...That said, 2021 isn’t 2020 redux. As Aaron Carroll pointed out Tuesday in The Times, Covid is now a crisis for the unvaccinated. Risks for vaccinated Americans aren’t zero, but they’re vastly lower than for those who haven’t gotten a vaccine.
