That fear is due to a lack of understanding.. of fundamental knowledge of how this particular pathogen operates, or any pathogen really.. if someone has that level of fear, it's because they're effectively equating this to a supernatural force.
When you do understand this epidemic.. its origins, the effects of the pathogen, routes of transmission, you don't have to fear because you take the proper precautions to avoid your neighbor. You don't stand in line in enclosed areas with recirculated air. You don't put your fingers in your orifices. You attempt to lessen exposure with masks or face shields. The same way you attempt to avoid mosquitoes or ticks, you take actions that are based on rational analysis.
That's the thing.. atomic war was still a tenuous proposition due to Mutually Assured Destruction.. Covid *is real and here.* The irony is that people are exhibiting the same mental incapacity to address or acknowledge the likelihood of chronic illness or death in a situation that's several orders of magnitude *more real.* And that makes it almost inevitable that it will get worse, because that's what will keep this pandemic going.. cognitive dissonance that can recognize that this is (at minimum) an escaped pathogen that was being studied not because it was "just a little flu," but because it had the capacity for widespread destruction. If you poll the average person, they know this origin, but somehow that isn't reason to control it.. getting everyone to see that having some small amount of discipline for 4 weeks could result in those "freedoms" returning is impossible. They'd rather allow this bioweapon to continue strengthening until it achieves the level of destruction it was being studied for. Wild.
It's like nobody has ever heard of Skype, nobody has Facebook messenger. The telephone doesn't exist. It's not really talking unless it's done at a space of less than two meters. You aren't really living unless you're able to transmit this bioweapon.
