I think Covid has been a bad global pandemic, but

I think a pretty good argument could be made that delta variant disease won't be that bad in US. There is a lot of vaccination induced and natural immunity to CoV. The model predicted US would follow UK. Since UK cases are decreasing, why would US be different?
My hospital has only 2 Covid hospitalizations right now (neither in ICU), down from 180 during the first peak in April 2020, and 160 the second peak November 2020.
Which government interventions do you think have been the most helpful?
Were the shutdowns worth it?
It's good to prepare for the worst case scenario, as long as the cost isn't too high to do so. Most models have been wrong.
I think CoV will continue to mutate and spread in the unvaccinated (worst in third world countries, such as what gave us delta) and in the immunosuppressed (those who can't clear CoV - such as those coinfected with HIV - can see the virus mutate *HUGELY* over several months).
Glad that we are doing trials in Brazil, where there is much more widespread disease.
