I see it was a busy night on this board. Too bad given the optimism headed into a new week.
Perhaps we should employ a ‘Hylander Variation’: posters should be prohibited from replying more than once to a post dripping with personal criticism. You get one shot to defend yourself (or to counterattack if you prefer) and then the plug is pulled. Make the most of it. Extra points awarded if it’s funny.
And if self-restraint doesn’t work, and even a little creativity, maybe we should shut the board down from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM, at least for several weeks. A daily time out period, particularly when idle minds are prone to mischief. Heads down on desks please. It works in elementary school.
What doesn’t work is an extended series of adult posts delivering the message, ‘You’re wrong’, followed by ‘ No, you’re wrong’. Repeated five more times. Egos run wild.
A suggestion: when engaged in this kind of downward spiraling interchange: muster the detachment to say, ‘You could be right about that!’ and let it go. Works every time (for me), especially with my wife, who is prone to remind me that she, too, has a ‘huge shareholder position’ in our marriage.
