This isn't about Leronlimab, but it's about the FD

Yesterday the FDA approved a drug by a company called Chimerix to treat smallpox in humans (bioterror). Why is this notable? Chimerix's drug has only done two tests in primates -- monkeys. In both cases all the monkeys died.
It has done no other tests with primates. It works moderately well in rabbits and mice. But all the monkeys died.
The company took that news off its website, but I'm sure the FDA knows anyway. And approved anyway. Meanwhile, there IS a treatment for smallpox that DOES work in primates, made by Siga Technologies. So the need is not dire. Of course it's nice to have two different drugs. But only if they both work.
That's our FDA.
