I take exception to blanket deletions of posts containing that phrase.
Just because someone takes offense at what they perceive someone means by saying it doesn't change that it is simply a phrase that describes the virus originated from China. We call viruses by regional names all the time, but because Trump said China Virus is not a reason to strike the phrase from our vocabulary. The phrase calls attention to the fact that is where it came from. He used it because all his enemies were trying to blame him and he was siimply pointing out where to put the original concern and not to give China a pass.
it is a far stretch to assume that Trump has some sway over young blacks in san fransisco beating up elderly asians. The word "China" is either racist or its not. It cant be racist when one person you dont like uses the word, but not when someone else doesnt like it.
What you are proposing is implementing your view of politics on the board to the exclusion of others. You are being a political censor which is your right to do as a mod. Im just asking you to not be a blatant hypocrite (we are all hypocrites to some extent, so i'm not trying to throw stones from a glass house).
Implementing your politics as a mod might make you feel good and righteous, but it is a slippery slope of self righteousness that will not be a good thing for the board. Calling out profanity, name calling and vulgarity is one thing, but censoring a word because you dont like the politics of someone who used the phrase (a year later) aint a good thing. Look at if from the other side and see if you would like your ox gored.
Look at the dude who was charged with a hate crime. he was messed up and dealing with habitual frequenting of the parlors for a "happy ending". His sex addiction was a demon in his life that was screwing with him. It just happens that asians typically work and run those businesses. i doubt if he was racist he would want a happy ending from a person he hated. but charging a hate crime checks the right boxes and gets the protesters off your back as a DA.
