The entire situation is incredibly frustrating because in normal times, i.e. no deadly global pandemic, you're right... our current trial results should be reinforced with additional data and taking a few more months to run another trial and gather that data wouldn't be a big deal.
But, my God, we're *in* a pandemic that is killing tens of thousands. How is everyone so apparently numb to that?!? We all know the drug works. The FDA knows it works. Okay, we didn't hit the PE. We still know it works. plus, there's no end of data proving it's safe.
Imagine a guy named 'Bob.' Bob just ran a marathon. Right at the end of the race, he saw a friendly face in the crowd and veered left, just missing the actual official finish line. Did Bob run 26 miles? Is he capable of running 26 miles? Or should we insist he run the race again because of where the organizers arbitrarily set-up two posts which Bob had to run between to officially 'prove' his race result? Sure, you could say it doesn't count unless Bob runs the race properly. Now say that while bearing in mind hundreds of others runners are dropping dead in the meantime because of it.
A ridiculous comparison you say? The FDA is being ridiculous.
Refusing to let Cytodyn use 4 doses was akin to making Bob run in a single sneaker. The FDA basically handicapped Leronlimab (knowlingly? that's another debate). After all, we know what the result would have been if every patient had received 4 doses of Leronlimab.
