Our COVID unit is full. Our respiratory floor is full. Our ER is full. We have 2 smaller sister hospitals where we are now sending patients and we are only keeping critical patients.
It feels like November-December of last year all over when we had a huge surge in cases. Average age is 50 years this time unlike 70 years last year. Also, patients are getting sicker much faster within 4-5 days compared to 7-10 days last year.
We have done genome sequencing on some patients and we are finding that it’s a UK variant.
Most of the patients are not vaccinated but there are few who are vaccinated as well, either partially or fully. Many of them will get more sick, some go on ventilator and some of them would unfortunately not survive.
We are not even getting a chance to use Remdesivir now because most patients are already requiring HFNC when they come to ER so we are giving them Tocilizumab.
We desperately need Zyesami approved.
These patients don’t have to die if we have this drug. I usually trust FDA but I really wish they would act faster and wish that company also releases relevant information regarding EUA. This is not only about money. This is about saving lives.
