How Does a Stock Move From OTC to a Major Exchange

Depending on the circumstances, the stock symbol may change. A stock that moves from the OTC to Nasdaq often keeps its symbol—both allowing up to five letters.
What if we do qualify behind the scenes? Confidential process? Dark status? I haven't a clue but seems like its in the realm of possibilities yet.
