I hope you are right, but in my ignorance I don't think you are. To think that puts more confidence in humanity doing the right things than I can manage. I was sent an article yesterday by a friend who is trying to decide whether or not to get vaccinated. According to a January analysis by Gallup, 51 percent of health care workers and first responders polled in December were unconvinced of the merits of getting vaccinated, even if the vaccine “was free, available, FDA approved and 90% effective.”

I would be willing to bet a fair amount of money that the group "unconvinced" lean heavily to the politically conservative side of the great divide. It appears to me the US is not alone in its scientific rebellion. Even peaceful little Netherlands has its rebellion.
There will be more infections and more variants, which will also produce more deadly and wide spreading version of Covid.
We are an innovative species, but very impressionable without rational justification. We'll be chasing variants for sometime to come.
