RETICENCE - Some of our neighbors have released self-tests allowing citizens to test themselves for Covid-19. Why has France still not approved them? We take stock.

In recent days, Switzerland, Slovenia and Austria have adopted self-tests, following in the footsteps of the United Kingdom, where these tests have been accompanying children's returns to school since Monday, or even Germany, where they were put on sale this weekend in supermarkets, the shelves being emptied in 24 hours.
Still, across the Rhine, opinions are divided on these self-tests. "It is useful so that everyone feels safe," said a German interviewed by TF1, while another of her fellow citizens expressed reservations: "I will not buy these tests, do them myself. seems ineffective. You have to do the exam correctly, I will let a professional do it instead. "

A test that is 97% reliable?

A file studied by the Haute Autorité de Santé
If these self-tests are not yet authorized in France, the file is being studied by the Haute Autorité de santé (HAS) and an answer will be given before the end of March. "We will have to answer, on the one hand, questions of performance vis-à-vis these self-tests, and also of modalities of use, in which medical and societal indications we will be able to use these self-tests in a complementary manner to which already exists " , explains Cédric Carbonneil, head of the professional acts evaluation service at HAS.
