You get a bunch of new buyers that either put in stop losses to protect their gains or to cut their loses.
Are there really a lot of shorts, I don't know, but I don't think so as it would be really risky in these gamestop days as some found out Monday premarket.
Either way, it's relatively easy to take out the stop loses especially if there are a lot of branches in the tree.
