Visibility in ocean water varies depending on several factors. Water that was clear in the past may not be in the future. The black water they were and are experiencing at the target site was not because they were diving a few feet below natural light. Normal visibility issues are not a problem for them.
The visibility of this site has varied from 20 ft of visibility to 30 feet deep of black water on the bottom to 3 feet of black water on the bottom. This black water has a visibility of zero. That is not normal and was not at the location previously. It dissipated greatly but when the bottom 3 feet are still black with zero visibility, that's a problem. They could wait for the conditions to change to better visibility or they could do something about their current situation. Waiting would be an unknown amount of time so they devised a new tool to fix the problem.
That's not an excuse, that's brilliantly dealing with the situation when the facts changed on them.
For Blockchain, the municipalities and cover-19 were part of the problem that Kyle mentioned but that doesn't mean those were the only issues. But he didn't mentioned all of them because it doesn't really matter. Like you said you pivot and adjust to accommodate the new situation like they did with the black water.
One "pivot" is to hire more sales people who have more connections so you can expand your market.
I don't remember the company mentioning how much they were paying the new sales people so I don't see them "whimsically burning through cash" when the sales people are working on commission only. Unless you have a source with the company that is telling you differently, that is how I understand the situation.
If by "clear direction" you mean limiting themselves to one single objective then no, they are not doing that. They can walk and chew gum at the same time. When one project hits a temporary roadblock or delay, they focus their energy where they can make progress and come back to the other issue when it makes sense to. Having multiple projects allows them to do this. This is a good thing.
If you got in 3 years ago you should be up quite a bit by now. If you are nervous about losing your current profits maybe you should bow out now.
Or you can give it till the end of March like you mentioned. Seems like plenty of time to me.
