About the FDA possibly slow rolling us in lieu of a focus on big pharma...
My take is that they aren't actively making it more difficult for us, they're just actively making it easier for big pharma.
Big pharma has lobbyists. They have connected people on their board or as consultants. They have been through the process often enough to know people and possibly even their wives/husbands by name. They have more people working on every facet of the process to speed things up.
In comparison nobody knows us, we have no real connections anywhere, and we have far fewer resources available.
None of us are inclined to automatically believe anything a complete stranger tells us, even if they have initials behind their name. Unless we are seeking them out through our own due diligence. But if we're given the name of an otherwise complete stranger from someone we know or trust, we'll automatically allow them some benefit of the doubt. Big pharma is well known, well connected, and as a result they have an easier time navigating the process.
But the FDA will be happy to help us to market if we can pass all of their tests without a shadow of doubt. After that our doubt status will begin to change and we'll see the benefit of that shake out with label extensions and future interactions that come along much easier.
