If the trial had continued with the same results we would have obtained 90 deaths at the end.
As you correctly point out 87 might contain deaths beyond 28 days and, yet, as well, not contain all eventual deaths from the second part of the trial.
Due to a improvement in the SOC, as time goes by, total 42 deaths in the second part makes some sense.
It is impossible to know the exact number but I do believe a good "educated" guess of 87 is close to the reality.
We will just have to wait ...not much more, though.
