I struggled with this same problem (annoying popup ads) all morning.
I'm using the Chrome browser and I finally stopped the popup ads by downloading the "Unblocker for Chrome" popup blocker extension from the Chrome store.
There are many different "popup blockers". If one doesn't work, try the next one.
Asking Google to stop showing the ad didn't work for me.
