I just wanted to share some thoughts about the Covid trial
I just wanted to share some thoughts about the Covid trial progression.
First, the pace at which we got to this point has been pretty much out of Leo’s control. I think that the only real thing Leo has had control over is producing and supplying Brilacidin. We have advanced at a snail’s pace if you take the investor or outsider’s view but my experience in dealing with government tells me we actually advanced at a good clip due to the emergency covid has presented. Every step was a crossing of the Ts and dotting of the I-s and then doing it again in triplicate. We watched other potential therapeutics advance but they took an entirely different route. They did not have the RBLs kick their tires or take them for a spin. They just threw their drugs at covid in hopes that they did something noticeable to make a quick buck. Brilacidin has passed every challenge our best researchers deemed necessary to identify the best treatment against covid which leads me to my second thought.
As of today we are not aware of any government funding but the government has obviously spent money on Brilacidin. It’s hard for us to quantify the cost of research and assign a value for it but remember nothing the government does is cheap and the special nature of covid-19 made everything associated with research for it even more expensive. The cost to date really has been on the back of the taxpayer via the federal government so I would not be surprised if the cost of the trial is also funded by the government. Which leads me to my final thought.
Leo is not likely in control of much. He owns the drug but those doing the work and spending the money are in Government and Military agencies. I have always thought that Brilacidin would find a home with BARDA and Uncle Sam would be our first and biggest customer and now I am even more confident that this is the case. It is not Leo’s style to be quiet and as a businessman he knows the importance of getting your product quick to market. I feel that he has little say because the feds via a yet undisclosed agency and funding source is doing the driving. I sleep well at night knowing that as soon as can be, we will be issued an EUA, an order for millions of doses for use, and another for the Strategic National Stockpile, and yet another for DoD use.
