The good doctor got it somewhat wrong (understandable as he is a doctor and not a statistician).
We are a 2:1 trial. The same number of deaths in both cohorts would yield a 50% reduction of deaths and a p-value of app. 0.00065 (power of 94%).
A reduction of 30% would yield a p-value of app. 0.05.
I think this is what Dr. Seethamraju was thinking .... he got this one right. we need 30% reduction and will fly in our beautiful balloon.
