"My takes as a doctor working in ICU
overall covid patient is down quite a bit. However remain concerned with some new mutant variant s in UK and California but nothing as scary as South Africa
The variant discovered in South Africa, 501Y.V2, with a mutation called 484, may be escaping some or all of the antibodies people developed against a natural infection – though it's too soon to know whether vaccines will be effected.
".. because the new variants spread a lot faster and perhaps vaccines won’t offer as much protection.
"Looking at blood from 44 South Africans who recovered from COVID-19, more than 90% showed reduced immunity to the new variant, and almost half had no protection at all against it, according to a study published Tuesday though not yet peer-reviewed."
If I had to guess, we ll be looking at higher infection rates going into Feb and March. Fda and cdc will approve a lot of therapeutics now in phase 3 trials including hgen, rlftf and cydy. Vax not clear if they work or will work on mutant variants now and developing in the future."
