So, the question is ... What the hell happened?

This is all conjecture, mind you. I will not run numbers as we all know how that goes. Take 1%, 5% or 10% of any group or situation and the numbers jump off the spreadsheet. A simple exercise that only highlights what we have suspected for a long time. Good to know, hopeful and encouragng, but, imo, insufficient for an explosion of investment totalling more than 100% of the ADV within the last 2 hrs before a 3 day ho-hum holiday weekend. Something else is in play that grabbed the attention of those that perhaps were waiting on the sidelines for a particular kind of development. I expect a major announcement on tuesday morning.
The poster mtoronto has given us all plenty upon which to speculate. I am certainly prone to thinking outside the box on occasion, guilty as charged. MTor chided us for not thinking bigger, much bigger, and I accept the challenge. I know I'm going to regret this but if you can't have a little fun then what's the point? I will create two categories, sport & non-sport.
Sports - get ready ... it's an open < field, pitch, court, arena, stadium > I mean, geez, take your pick. Further breakdown of a) athlete endorsement; b) league endorsement.
Does the name Tiger Woods mean anything to you? He is winding down his PGA tour playing days and has had well-publicized back and knee problems. Although he doesn't need the money, it would be an incredibly good move on his part for at least a couple of reasons. Public image upgrade for one not to mention a boatload of cash. His name is recognized the world over, even outside the world of golf. Offhand I can't think of any other athlete other than Michael Jordan or Muhammed Ali with that kind of cachet. MJ has had Air Jordan for years, and still has it. Ali is no longer with us. TW would be a monumental catch and could be with us for years.
Next, an endorsement from a major league sports team or an entire league. I would favor the latter. How about MLB? If a MLB catcher does not have a DJO eme advantage knee brace on each knee next season and two more on the shelf, he is losing out, that simple. Pitchers, same thing. You can make the same argument for any professional sports league, take your pick.
Now for the really big stuff. Not taking anything away from TW, but athlete endorsements are finicky and don't guarantee sales let alone continuity or longevity, MJ notwithstanding. Now, official governing bodies that dictate policy, purse strings, and management is a whole different story. Yes, I am referring to my personal favorite, Standard-of-Care, either as an outright declaration or 'de facto'. In no particular order, I'll jump in.
First up is private health insurance coverage. This would be a major turnaround from providing payment for opioids. Let's say United Healthcare, Blue Cross/Shield, Anthem (aka WellPoint), Aetna, Humana, Cigna all together, under an umbrella organisation, gave a full endorsement for Actipatch and/or RecoveryRx as a first line approach to pain, either as a result of injury, chronic condition, or post-op. I got goosebumps just typing this.
An update on RecoveryRx which may or may not include any part of or all of the above. Should it be only (?) an update of RRx that covers, say, all (most) hospital groups in US it would be considered beyond a major win, de facto SoC.
Next, governmental coverage - Medicare, Medicaid, obviously, but also I include the military - VA & DOD. How politicos squiggle and squirm has always been an open wound, but a win on this level would be huge. We would help mass numbers of people so, yeah, this would be a highly desirable outcome, not to mention very popular, and lucrative.
The Olympics - KT Tape is a sponsor of the US Olympic Team not to mention a sports brand recognized the world over. What if KT convinced our US Olympic Team to make our products to be the 'Official' pain relief / recovery-from-injury products for the entire Team USA? Not only KT athletes, all Team USA Olympic athletes. Our brand with KT Tape, maybe an advertising campaign with an accomplished, past medal-winning Olympic athlete, say, Kerri Walsh Jennings, who just happens to be on the current Team USA, front and center, all over the damn place. << https://www.kttape.com/kt-tape-athletes >> How about an official designation thru the International Olympic Committee? Yowsza! Dare to dream, I say.
On pins and needles 'til tuesday morning. We are on the cusp.
