After talking with a colleague who is a VP for a multi-national drug company and an expert on CMS codes and reimbursement, I was told ICD PCS codes are not assigned by CMS to drugs that are about to be approved by FDA, they are instead requested by the company developing the drug when approval is expected. Applications have to be reviewed and accepted by CMS before assignment, and there is some coordination between CMS and FDA. Others with more experience in this area are very bullish about this; I’m just sharing my diligence for everyone’s consideration. Either way, this shows that Cytodyn knows the process and they are expecting commercial and/or EUA distribution imminently.
