Dr. Malan's stem cell ideas for covid treatment are in submission for phase one clinical trials. They are revolutionary but down the road and not available anytime soon.
What's more important if the Covid-19 Rapid Test Serum Assay mentioned can be brought to market. He sees it as a multi-function test as part of an in-home treatment program for positive testing patients.
Others would benefit from DIY home Covid-19 tests. The problem with DIY home testing is that variable results can occur based on the abilities of the test taker to take their own samples. IOW, tests administered by medically trained personnel give more accurate results than those given by non-trained DIY test takers. A very simple, foolproof protocol is needed, perhaps test administration by Zoom with the test taker?
Edit: If the DIY test is as simple as a Diabetic fingerprick for blood sample for their blood sugar meter, or a blood sample version of a pregnancy test, this should be simple to DIY administer. Thats a big difference between blood/serum and swabbing nose or mouth tests.
In addition to that, expanding testing capabilities by having a QD based platform to create new tests for other infectious diseases is very exciting and hopefully could achieve FDA approval in the nearer future.
