Deeper dive. MS-DOS was bought from another company with Microsoft employees tweaking it a little. The concept of windows in an OS comes from Bell Labs. His genius was not the licensing to IBM because he wanted to sell it to IBM. IBM was stupid enough to reject that and offer a licensing deal instead. Thus the rise of the IBM clone computers.
