As some of you know I am a physician and head of a large anesthesia group of one of the largest medical systems in Mississippi.
Unlike almost everyone on this board,I actually have used this drug on two patients. My experience is both sobering and extremely hopeful.
Early in December my 88 year old mother in law contracted Covid and by December 4th was hospitalized with it. She deteriorated very quickly and by December 8th was struggling to breath despite the latest in SOC which included Remdisivir and Decadron. I had already had Covid and was staying with her that night and contacted the company for a compassionate dose of LL to give to her. Unbelievably Nader and Scott Kelly helped me go through the legal hoops snd I had the drug here by December 10. Unfortunately my mother in law had further deteriorated and her inflammatory markers were out of the viable range. She received her first dose but died the next day.
I kept the second dose in the fridge and sure enough last week my favorite OR pharmacist became very ill with Covid and went to the ER, received IV decadron, Remdisivir and antibiotics for superinfection snd sent home on oxygen because our hospital is full. Her lungs showed pneumonia and her sats on oxygen were 90-91 percent. As a physician in Mississippi I explained the risk benefits of an experimental drug and she agreed to receive the LL. She actually did worse the following day but I had read that it takes 72 hours to take effect. I was alarmed though early on as I’ve seen multiple patients die within days of the condition she was in and if those patients did make it it was weeks snd months of pulmonary and other organ disfunction associated with their survival. However, at the 72 hour mark she quit needing breathing treatments and the fever broke. By hour 48 she just felt tired snd her cough was largely gone. It was really like a death blanket was taken off of her. I’m sitting here writing this still in awe of what just happened. She’s alive and going to be fine with no long term effects.. I know this is just observational and in no way can be used to change a practice, but by God I’m convinced the CD12 data will be off the charts positive and soon I’ll be able to give it to all my serious and critical patients if there is enough left.
