Generex social media post for today: Will COVID-19
Post# of 36537
Like any virus, SARS-CoV-2 (which causes COVID-19) could theoretically mutate. However, it likely would not mutate in the same manner as the influenza virus, which causes the flu. Coronaviruses such as SARS-CoV-2 are unique among viruses in that they proofread their replicated genomes, which means they mutate more slowly. Additionally, most SARS-CoV-2 mutations are expected to minimally alter how the virus impacts the body, though previous mutations have made the virus more contagious (though not more deadly).
