BLA, I agree with you, pretty much. Way best to get good sharp definable endpoints. That said, I remember asking a Long Hauler if she were sure she had it. Oh yes, she said. She said it's like looking for whales: when you THINK you've seen one, you haven't; when you see one, you KNOW you have. Being a long hauler, she said, means you are so tired you feel you will never not be tired again.
So maybe getting rid of that fatigue is more obvious and less subjective than we might think.
