Unfortunately the Republicans in office are complicit through their silence and acceptance and they are conservative as well. Trump has destroyed the true conservative base of the GOP and turned it into a cult with his and their quest to retain power at all costs.... and this is coming from a right leaning independent since day one. And, you are correct. Many Republicans did vote the down ballot for their own but not for Trump.
