I'm trying to figure out if the "maroon" even know

I'm trying to figure out if the "maroon" even knows what the word neophyte means. It seems to me that something like "knowledgeable scholar" would be a better description for those of us who have been conservatives for decades. But even if he thought "knowledgeable scholar" wasn't quite up to snuff, you would think that he could have come up with something which doesn't essentially mean new.
