Trump's poor judgement and dishonsesty in downplaying the virus....didn't want to panic us..... and in setting a shitty example by disparaging mask wearers and holding super spreader events are largely responsible for the death toll.
The pharm companies were going to go full speed ahead on the vaccines for the enormous economic return and the prestige as well.
Trump's mishandling of the response is decidedly not mitigated by the vaccine effort which is still going to be too late for 10's of thousands yet to die.
We could have bought more time for the vaccines if we had coordinated national mitigation and responsible mask messaging to depoliticize the wearing of masks.
The willful ignorance in decrying mask requirements as tyranny would be laughable if it weren't so stupid, selfish, irresponsible and lethal.
