Zolis, you are right, these are ridiculous results. Of the 5 that got CV in the vaccine group, that might have been the only 5 that came in contact with someone with CV to acquire it. The other 14,995 may have never come in contact, hence would not get CV. So one way to think about it, 5 out of 15,000 is 0.0003333. If we take daily infection in the US of say 150K divided by 350M people, you get 0.000429. So they may have just been about the average infection rate in the US for unvaccinated. That is the trouble with all these trials, as you stated, if they put everyone in a room and exposed them for 15 minutes and then see the CV rate, that would be a great test. However our moral judgement doesn't allow to expose people to a known virus that could kill them. I believe there are some companies that are trying to get the FDA to allow volunteers to do this.
