Vaccines have saved countless lives and prevented an untold amount of suffering. The smallpox and rinderpest eradication strategies relied on vaccines and the majority of ongoing disease elimination campaigns include vaccination strategies.

Also, lives can return to normal faster with vaccines than treatments. Hospitals are already taxed with mask wearing and social distancing. Let’s say we go back to no mask wearing and large gatherings without vaccines. Cases will skyrocket. Assuming Brilacidin works, will hospitals have enough capacity for everyone who needs IV? Patients in critical condition might not receive IV in time if ICU beds run out. If Brilacidin can be taken orally at home, then it’s a totally different story.
I agree that both vaccines and treatments are needed. I’m not saying one is more effective or safer than the other due to very limited early data. This is just my opinion on why governments around the world are investing heavily on vaccines first. I hope COVID-19 vaccines are as safe as the flu shot.

Flu shots are very safe. Over the past 50 years, several hundred million people in the United States have safely received flu vaccines. Severe reactions to flu shots are extremely rare. For every million flu shots, severe reactions occur in about 0.2 cases.
