Dr. Fauci on MSNBC today: “...we have quite good things now for interventions for people who have advanced disease, who are in the hospital, who are intubated, who are on ventilators, who require oxygen. That’s good. We need more of those but we have some of them that are working well, which likely is contributing to a decrease in the deaths we see when people do go into the hospital. What we need more of is what the question you just asked me. We need more of those interventions that prevent people from going in the hospital. The MAB from Lilly that was just given an EUA is one of a group of these types of interventions early on. We just had an antiviral workshop for COVID-19 literally yesterday or the day before in which we are trying to galvanize a lot of activity to do the kind of drug development that we’ve done years ago for HIV/AIDS. Which has been extraordinarily successful...”
Science writer Laurie Garrett mentioned last night that the prelim data on the Pfizer vaccine showed that while 94 were infected, 34,000 were protected. Protected for what amount of time? 7 days. According to her initial read. She’s indicating that we don’t know what the durability might be. Wondering if anyone has unearthed additional findings from the press release.
