Today HHS Secretary Azar announced that three companies (excluding Gilead) had applied for EUA status for their COVID drug. Reading his gestures, Azar seemed to imply that one or two could get approved. Given what Dr Lalezari portrayed, our enrollment could get much harder if there are a couple new EUAs out there. The three to four month time frame might slip. Even tho our efficacy may be better, the state of the pandemic might have changed with some therapies and possibly a vaccine that has some benefit. So I am supporting deblinding if the meeting with MHSA and the Philippines do not produce tangible results. For those who maintain that another country will only grant EUA status if our FDA grants EUA or approval, remember each country has its own agenda and system!
