Twitter Goofed It
By blocking the URL of a New York Post story without explanation, the company only stoked conspiracy theories.

In an even more byzantine restriction this morning, Twitter temporarily blocked a link to a government website run by the Republicans of the House Judiciary Committee, where the story had been reposted. Donald Trump Jr. tweeted that the ban constituted “clear election interference.” The ban was quickly lifted and a Twitter spokesperson said the decision was made “in error.”

Hours after blocking a New York Post article from being shared in tweets and direct messages, raising an outcry from many, Twitter Inc. late Wednesday explained the reasoning, saying the main issue was images within the article — not the article itself.

Facebook Inc. also blocked the New York Post story from being shared, citing its policy for slowing the spread of potential misinformation.
