As outbreaks are on the rise again in Europe and the US as well as other nations, It’s time to take a step back a bit and look at what needs to happen going forward. 2020 was the year we ran away from Covid but 2021 needs to be the year we live with Covid. And politicians need to get behind that approach because shutting economies isn’t going to work and quite frankly, now shows that approach was merely a stop gap until a second wave hit. So what makes sense..
Shift gears to focus on therapeutics . Many of us believed that was the approach but it has taken a while for the nation to figure out that vaccines are going to take a while and no one knows how truly effective they will be. Shift OWS more towards funding therapeutics and use Hahn’s guidelines for approvals for EUA which he stated in his interview a few days ago. OWS needs to pump a lot of cash into the manufacturing angle here since there will be a major shortage of viles for treatment .
Technology: get the apps out there that will automatically register your positive or negative test in real time in your Mobile device. The tests need to be in the hands of the people so it can be taken any time and an immediate transfer of that result goes to your phone. All transportation and leisure, retail, restaurants etc where people gather will require you to show your ID and phone app results before entering any establishment , airplane , hotel etc.. but these establishments will all be open and inspected periodically that the guidelines are being followed
therapeutics being available so people will understand their chances of dying are greatly reduced with effects of the virus in many cases which would have been deadly before, will be more flu/cold like and for a shorter period , will hopefully change the mindset of the public and free them up to participate again rather than stay at home and hope the virus goes away.
This is what governments need to do as a unified effort and prioritize it. It needs to start now
