Gold futures settle at lowest since late August
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Gold futures fell Wednesday to settle at their lowest level since late August, ahead of a meeting of the Group of 20 nations later this week, which investors hope will provide some indication on currency policy. April gold (COMEX:GCJ3) shed $4.50, or 0.3%, to settle at $1,645.10 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. That was the lowest settlement price for a most-active contract since Aug. 22, according to FactSet. Futures prices have traded within a $50-an-ounce range since the start of the year. March silver (COMEX:SIH3) also fell 15 cents, or 0.5%, to settle at $30.87 an ounce, its lowest since Jan. 28
