Weirdly comforting but I think I might be missing

Reasonable people that understand the risk in driving try to mitigate those risks (e.g., making your kid take drivers ed, avoiding reckless/aggressive drivers, stopping at stop signs, slowing down in school zones and for pedestrians, putting the baby in a car seat, etc.). I am not a worrier in any sense of the word- but for several years after my kid turned driving age, I was a wreck- and took every precaution to reduce the risk of him being one of those 1.3 million or hurting someone else.
"Covid is slightly more dangerous then driving." - IMO when reasonable people are made aware of the risk of covid- yes- many will also make changes in their everyday lives to also mitigate those risks- for themselves, their loved ones and for total strangers.
The difference is that we do might not actually see the direct effect of our actions. We don't see the 'car wreck' happening that we caused or the one that was avoided.
I told my kid when he was learning to drive: you can't control the bad driving of others- but you can control your own actions and get out of the way of the arseholes that don't seem to understand the risk to your life OR theirs (and the impact on many others). With covid- none of us can really get out of the way of the arseholes.
