What implication do you think this has for wrecks in US waters?
I realize this is not about Seafarer, but about Odyssey Marine's find of the Mercedes, but as these 2 legal giants explain (Goold and Dr. Delgato) ALL wrecks have owners of the property lost at sea, and they advise you get permission ahead of time before attempting to salvage any wreck.
I guess it would be hard for Kyle to raise money to fund a venture seeking to obtain salvage rights, so he by-passed that effort in the business model. That's another reason Seafarer is seen as a joke in the industry.
The questions regarding ownership rights begins specifically at the 1:20:47 mark in this video linked below, though it is discussed throughout the talk.
Many here have claimed only military vessels are off limits. However, it is made crystal clear in this Q&A ownership rights apply to all sunken vessels. And of course the Supreme Court upheld the 4th Circuit who ruled all sunken vessels and the property that went down with it remain the property of the owner UNTIL such a time as they may declare they relinquish ownership.
