I don't believe that the executive comp is connected to the financing in any way. And, I don't think they are desperate for the compensation. I'm sure they really want it, and I would imagine they are concerned that it wont pass so they have the callers doing double time to encourage votes.
When NP sold shares to provide funding, I assumed he did it with the expectation that he would be rewarded for it. And, honestly I am in agreement with that. But the amount of shares that the BOD is trying to allocate to him is considerably higher.
Personally, I am not opposed to Nader or anyone on the BOD receiving more compensation, but like others I feel it should be tied to successes. It seems they asked for too much, too soon.
Lastly, I don't see how awarding shares would have any impact on defending against shorts. It may have an impact against a hostile takeover, but I am not certain.
