Yes there a variety of testing pilot programs and restrictions being tried out by different airlines and countries, but what is needed is a more united approach, if it is going to work on a large scale.
The IATA is the industry group for airlines globally and it appears that it is bringing all of the airlines together with a consistent approach. The IATA are looking for endorsement of their plan by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the U.N. agency that oversees global aviation rules.
So the airlines, airports and countries don't need IATA permission, but the IATA is probably the best bet for spearheading a global solution to bring back air travel on a large scale.
I'm not pinning much hope on Tried&Tested getting "their" test and QDXH ID into a couple of UK airports next week, but if they do, it better be a smashing success, if they want to hang on.
