CW- I know it's a bit nerve wracking, but he'll be fine. I have two kids in college, and I long ago accepted infection is inevitable. One had it, the other -far more social kid- has not tested positive, though half his friends did. At the former's school, there have been over 1500 cases and zero students have been hospitalized. I saw one report that showed almost 26,000 cases among students with zero hospitalizations. Amazing to me that schools can shut down with that kind of hard data. The fact is that this disease is exponentially more dangerous as you go up in age.
Look at it this way- an average of 500 kids aged 15-24 per month die in car accidents, and 75 die of drowning. In 9 months of COVID, there have been a total of just over 300 COVID related deaths in that age group. Nobody is taking away the car keys from their newly licensed teenager and people have been putting in swimming pools left and right during this pandemic.
