The p-value in trials comparative.
We are comparing results from placebo against results from LL groups.
The 12 deaths was one possibility (meaning 18.5% of the placebo).
The 33 deaths was another one (app. 50% of the placebo).
Different p-values are obtained for different deaths in placebo and LL. The important thing is if p-value is lower than 0.05 the threshold normally used by FDA to decide if a drug is beneficial or not.
