I believe (from my limited perspective and knowledge base), that there is a relatively fine line between pathological and physiologic cytokine release.
I was thinking this morning about how the immune system and the human body are just a pile of mechanisms evolved over time to respond to infection, trauma, and all the daily insults and challenges we face.
These keep us alive day to day to reach maturity and procreate, but fail us after that.
There is no selective pressure and no resultant part of the human physiology to respond to stroke, myocardial infarction. The mechanisms to fight infection, when they slowly fail, instead over-react in a state of dysfunctional hyper vigilance and yield Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and a host of auto-immune diseases.
We have the cytokine storm in Covid, but the chronic cytokine elevation will eventually be the larger issue to which leronlimab will be a (the) solution.
Optimistically IMO.
