I am not in the position to malign the prescribing habits of multiple physicians. I would offer that steroids are prescribed long term when there are not good alternatives and that a failure to treat is unacceptable.
Were steroids able to be prescribed easily and safely without frequent deleterious effect, the US market for TNF inhibitors (Humira and competitors), would not exceed $40B.
I firmly believe in steroids for short term use. I will be happy to see the continued development of alternatives.
