When I was in Med school fugues like Fauchi were bigger then life, a god among men who gave us inspiration. Now I sometimes wonder how I drank a cool aid to such a large degree without even knowing I was being fed it. It's was obvious and in front of me the whole time but he practically wrote Harrison's guide to infectious disease, how could he be driven by anything else other than the sacred oath o had taken just a few years earlier? What I never saw then or understood was the dark side of Medicine in a relatively unregulated (by all standard measures) runaway capitalistic system which demands your morals and convictions as its price of entry. Do no harm yes but only do good if it serves the bottom line. Makes one question a lot of things about life and it's choices including the ones made by yourself and what your aspirations truly are and more importantly what you are and are not willing to sacrifice for them.
