What is great is that leronlimab has a currently unique mechanism of action that blocks CCR5 from CCL5 binding without disabling CCR5. This disabling of CCR5 appears to have significant consequences in terms of side effects and is not as effective in modulating/restoring normal immune function.
There are others here who understand this and can explain far better than I, but that is the basic mechanism as I understand it. Medicine is quickly marching forward as targeted therapies are developed for specific immune components.
We investors and patients are just incredibly lucky that Dr. Paul Maddon developed this drug and that Dr. Pourhassan has fought to bring it to market.
I knew the basics of the the leronlimab/pro-140 story, but just saw this account this morning. Brief and inspirational as we wait.
