Mrs. Johnston,
I'm sure you are aware of the Adam Feuerstein-CytoDyn feud by now. In my opinion, it's a bizarre, childish, unprofessional exercise in egotism, not journalism. I don't know what prompted it, but it's beneath STAT News to indulge it any longer.
An even bigger concern, is that this writer, Adam Feuerstein, attempted to insert his own personal drama into an ongoing drug trial by PERSONALLY HARASSING A WOMAN SUFFERING WITH BREAST CANCER!! That's so far beyond the boundaries of human decency that I cannot fathom it not being strongly condemned by The Boston Globe, parent company of STAT News. What kind of human being tries to manipulate a woman into second-guessing her oncologist's opinion? Even worse, he attempts to make alternative drug suggestions with absolutely NO MEDICAL EDUCATION!
You do know what a drug trial is, right? This poor woman is not only attempting to save her own life and extend the time she has on this earth with her family, but she is bravely putting her life on the line to see if there is treatment potential for ALL WOMEN suffering with breast cancer, now and in the future.
Adam Feuerstein's personal opinion on the company and the drug are completely irrelevant, and the trial will show efficacy or not. Deliberately attempting to sabotage the process is reprehensible. This demands a response. Silence is not an option, it's tacit approval of some truly vile behavior.
