I agree but not to assist but to take over leadership, there are dozens of examples of proven leaders who have experienced mandatory retirement from large corporations simply based on age. The best example I can think of is Bob Lutz from Ford who jumped to Chrysler and took them out of financial ruin. CEO at the time, Lee Iaccoca, guess what, background as an engineer, designer of the Mustang a car guy. "Lead, follow or get out of the way"!
